In Norway, a joint settlement system is used for equity instruments, bonds and short-term paper, referred to as the securities settlement system (VPO). In addition to Norges Bank, 17 banks and 22 brokers currently participate directly in the VPO. The process from an investors decision to trade securities through to final settlement of the trade is called the securities chain. The chart illustrates a trade initiated by a broker on the Oslo Stock Exchange between a buyer (B) and a seller (S), with both the securities and the cash leg of the transaction settled in the VPO.3 Investors who wish to trade securities on the Oslo Stock Exchange must have an account with a broker and a bank, as indicated at the top of the diagram. A securities transaction is initiated when a broker places a trade order on the Oslo Stock Exchange, either for own account or on behalf of an investor. After the trade has been concluded on the Stock Exchange, the buying and selling brokers must report the trade for settlement in the VPO. To simplify, we have presented the VPO process in the chart in three stages. In the first stage, banks must earmark funds prior to each settlement. The brokers financial positions in the VPO are settled over the banks accounts in Norges Bank on the basis of agreements between bank and broker. The next stage in the process is that the VPS clears each participants position in the settlement. Amounts outstanding between participants are offset, so that a net position for each security and a net position in NOK are calculated for each participant. Total net cash positions in the VPO averaged around NOK 5bn per day in the first quarter of 2004. Total stock market turnover of equity instruments, bonds and short-term paper averaged more than NOK 20bn per day in the same period. In the final stage of the VPO process, the cash positions are settled in Norges Bank and the VPS enters the transactions in the securities accounts. After the securities settlement is completed, a cash settlement is made between investors, brokers and banks, as shown at the bottom of the chart.4 Under earlier legislation, changes in securities accounts in the VPS were made only once a day. Settlement was therefore only executed once a day (every morning). Under the new Act, rights in the VPS are legally binding as soon as registration is completed. This makes it possible to execute several settlements in the course of the day. The VPS and Norges Bank decided to introduce two settlements a day (early and late morning). Previously, net positions for the following days settlement were calculated by the VPS even though it had no information about participants financial cover. There was therefore a possibility that the settlement would not be approved in Norges Banks balance check the next morning. Even though Norges Bank never had to reject a settlement, delays while brokers obtained more liquidity were not unusual. The delays created uncertainty as to whether and when the settlement would be executed. This problem has now been solved by requiring banks to earmark funds for this purpose. Transactions with inadequate cover are postponed to the next settlement. Thus, settlements are now executed at fixed times of the day. The VPO has thus become more predictable and more in line with international recommendations in this area.

Students of marital therapy who wish to remain familiar with trends and developments in marital therapy or who want to communicate their ideas about marital therapy to other professionals face several problems. First, many professional journals potentially include marital therapy in their scope, but it is not clear which of these journals most often publish articles on marital therapy. Second, many authors and institutions contribute articles on marital therapy to professional journals. Those interested in studying marital therapy would benefit from identifying the most prolific authors and institutions in the field of marital therapy. Third, identifying recent trends in the research and practice of marital therapy would yield important information regarding the particular problems and issues with which the field is concerned.The present article responds to these needs by analyzing marital therapy anicles in 10 prominent marital and family therapy journals. This updates previous analyses of scholarship in the field (i. e., Olson, Russell, Sprenkle, 1980; Thomas McKenzie, 1986), but with a focus on marital therapy.We reviewed all articles published in 10 selected marital and family therapy journals during a 6-year period from January 1985 through September 1991. Ten journals were identified as among the most influential in the field of marital and family therapy: the American Journal of Family Therapy, Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Therapy and Research, Family Process, Family Therapy, The International Journal of Family Therapy, Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, Journal of Family Therapy, Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, and Psychotherapy. All journals were published continuously during the time period covered, although the International Journal of Family Therapy was renamed Contemporary Family Therapy: An International Journal in the Spring of 1986.Editorials, book reviews, and letters to the editor were excluded from review. The sample consisted of 3,100 articles that were subject to peer review. Article title and abstract content determined which articles were selected as pertaining to marital therapy. Ultimately, 176 articles (5.7% of all articles) were identified as dealing with marital therapy.
Biofield therapies form a subcategory of the domain of energy therapies, as defined by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Specific biofield therapies addressed in this article include Therapeutic Touch, Healing Touch, Polarity Therapy, Reiki, and Qigong. This article will identify core concepts in biofield therapies, review controlled trials of the use of biofield therapies with patients with cancer, describe the process of biofield therapies implementation in one cancer center, and suggest research to benefit not only patients with cancer but also family members and oncology professionals. Biofield therapies form a subcategory of energy therapies, one of the five complementary medicine domains defined by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM). The terminology of biofield therapies is diverse because the practices that comprise the field have developed cross-culturally over thousands of years and, in recent decades, have been reformulated, taught, and practiced in a variety of ways. Terms in common use include energy healing, energy medicine, energy therapies, laying on of hands, and spiritual healing. Forms of practice found in North American healthcare systems include Healing Touch (HT), Polarity Therapy (PT), Qigong, Reiki, and Therapeutic Touch (TT) (see Figure 1). Two of the modalities were formulated specifically in the context of nursing: TT in the 1970s by Dolores Krieger, PhD, RN, at New York University, and HT in the 1980s by Janet Mentgen, BSN, RN, in Colorado. Krieger worked with healer Dora Kunz to develop and teach TT, a formal procedure for assessment and treatment of the human biofield. Mentgen compiled a range of biofield healing interventions from her own practice and from other healers and developed HT as a training program. PT was developed in the 1940s and 1950s by Randolph Stone, DO, DC, ND, who combined aspects of ancient healing practice with information from osteopathy and chiropractic. Qigong and Reiki are modalities of Japanese and Chinese origin, respectively. See Figure 2 for resources to learn more about the different types of biofield therapies. entity providing the black economic empowerment for the Tirisano project as
required by South African mineral legislation. Mogopa is also Etruscan
Diamonds Black Economic Empowerment partner on the Hartbeestlaagte and
Zwartrand properties in which it already owns a 26% interest. Mogopa has
accepted an indicative term sheet from the Industrial Development
Corporation of South Africa Limited (”IDC”) to finance Mogopas acquisition
of the 26% interest in the Tirisano Mine Joint Venture. Etruscan Diamonds
has also accepted an indicative term sheet from the IDC to provide an
additional R25 million to fund additional working capital requirements to

Students of marital therapy who wish to remain familiar with trends and developments in marital therapy or who want to communicate their ideas about marital therapy to other professionals face several problems. First, many professional journals potentially include marital therapy in their scope, but it is not clear which of these journals most often publish articles on marital therapy. Second, many authors and institutions contribute articles on marital therapy to professional journals. Those interested in studying marital therapy would benefit from identifying the most prolific authors and institutions in the field of marital therapy. Third, identifying recent trends in the research and practice of marital therapy would yield important information regarding the particular problems and issues with which the field is concerned.The present article responds to these needs by analyzing marital therapy anicles in 10 prominent marital and family therapy journals. This updates previous analyses of scholarship in the field (i. e., Olson, Russell, Sprenkle, 1980; Thomas McKenzie, 1986), but with a focus on marital therapy.We reviewed all articles published in 10 selected marital and family therapy journals during a 6-year period from January 1985 through September 1991. Ten journals were identified as among the most influential in the field of marital and family therapy: the American Journal of Family Therapy, Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Therapy and Research, Family Process, Family Therapy, The International Journal of Family Therapy, Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, Journal of Family Therapy, Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, and Psychotherapy. All journals were published continuously during the time period covered, although the International Journal of Family Therapy was renamed Contemporary Family Therapy: An International Journal in the Spring of 1986.Editorials, book reviews, and letters to the editor were excluded from review. The sample consisted of 3,100 articles that were subject to peer review. Article title and abstract content determined which articles were selected as pertaining to marital therapy. Ultimately, 176 articles (5.7% of all articles) were identified as dealing with marital therapy.

Seals can be either heat seals or cold seals. The methods used to make these types of seals vary, and detailed knowledge of these techniques is often limited to specialist manufacturers. There appears to be a lack of understanding regarding how to assess the integrity of these seals. In some instances, a failure of package integrity can lead to spoilage and food safety concerns. Such a failure also can affect the visual and organoleptic properties of the product. British scientists wanted to see if different seal profiles behaved differently. In experiments, trays made of crystallized polyethylene terepthalate were sealed using flat, curved or reduced-profile sealing heads. The trays were either sealed empty, or they contained food that had been added by depositor. Half of each set of trays underwent a sterilization heat process. The investigators used burst testing and dye penetration to assess how the seals performed. In addition, the seals were tested in a vacuum under water. The researchers found that trays sealed using a curved profile were more likely to leak when vacuum-tested, compared to trays sealed using the other profiles. Regarding the filled trays, all of the trays burst, unlike 44% of the trays that had been packed empty. Unprocessed trays that had been sealed with a flat profile were more likely to leak when tested in vacuum under water than the processed trays.
